Health Guarantee - Our Commitment to Healthy Macaws
Every Macaw that leaves MacawBreeder.com has been raised with intention—proper nutrition, daily socialization, clean housing, and careful monitoring from hatch to weaning. We do not place birds until we are confident they are healthy, active, and ready for their new home. That confidence is the foundation of our health guarantee.
What Our Guarantee Covers
We provide a limited health guarantee with every Macaw purchased from us. This guarantee confirms that your bird was in good health at the time of sale and provides you with a defined window to have your new companion examined by an independent avian veterinarian.
To validate your guarantee, you must have your Macaw examined by a licensed avian veterinarian within 3 days (72 hours) of receiving your bird. This examination is at your expense and is intended to confirm that your Macaw arrived healthy. If your veterinarian finds a pre-existing, non-treatable condition that seriously affects the bird’s health or wellbeing, you must notify us within 2 business days of the veterinarian’s certification.
If a Problem Is Found
If your avian veterinarian identifies a qualifying pre-existing condition within the guarantee period, we will, at our option, either:
-
Replace your Macaw with another bird of equal value (as soon as one becomes available), or
The original bird must be returned to us before a replacement or refund is issued. We do not assume liability for veterinary expenses, necropsy costs, or prescription expenses you may incur.
What This Guarantee Does Not Cover
Our health guarantee is specific and limited. It does not cover:
-
Temperament or behavior. We cannot guarantee personality, tameness, or future training outcomes.
-
Congenital or hereditary defects that do not adversely affect the bird’s health or that your veterinarian determines are minor or correctable.
-
Injury or illness occurring after the bird leaves our possession, including household accidents, exposure to other birds, or environmental hazards.
-
Conditions caused by improper care, including inappropriate diet, exposure to toxins (such as Teflon/PTFE fumes, smoke, aerosols, or air fresheners), or neglect.
-
Veterinary fees of any kind. All veterinary costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
-
Birds that are not examined by an avian veterinarian within the 72-hour window, or for which we are not notified within the required timeframe.
Your Responsibilities as a New Owner
A health guarantee is only meaningful when paired with responsible care. To preserve your guarantee and give your Macaw the best possible start:
-
Schedule your avian vet exam immediately. Do not wait. The 72-hour window begins when your bird arrives.
-
Provide a clean, safe environment. Macaws are sensitive to airborne toxins. Keep them away from Teflon/PTFE-coated cookware, smoke, aerosols, scented candles, and air fresheners.
-
Feed a proper diet. A balanced Macaw diet includes high-quality formulated pellets, fresh vegetables, leafy greens, and limited fruit. Avoid avocado, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, and high-salt or high-sugar foods.
-
Quarantine your new bird. If you have other birds, keep your new Macaw separated for at least 30 days to prevent disease transmission.
-
Follow up with routine veterinary care. Your guarantee does not replace ongoing wellness exams or preventive care.
Our Promise to You
We believe trust is built through transparency. We will never knowingly sell a sick bird, and we will communicate honestly about any known health conditions before placement. Our goal is not simply to place a Macaw—it is to help you begin a successful, decades-long relationship with a healthy companion. If you have questions about our health guarantee or about the health history of any available Macaw, contact us before you purchase. We are happy to provide details.
